Cagsawa Ruins, Albay

The Cagsawa Ruins is one of the famous tourist destination in the province of Albay because of it’s history and having the Mayon Volcano as it’s backdrop. It is located in the town of Daraga.

This 18th century Baroque Church was built by the Fransiscan Friars in 1724 and was destroyed during the most destructive eruption of the Mayon Volcano in February 1, 1814. Only the belfry and the church facade was left standing after the lava flows into the church. But the facade crumbled during an earthquake in 1950’s and only left the belfry.

The Cagsawa Ruins is also famous for being one of best locations to view the Mayon Volcano, unfortunately the clouds are against me during my short visit here. But I still managed to take a picture of it in my 2 other 360° Virtual Tours just click the Bicol Region Category of my website.

The Mayon Volcano is famous for its Perfect Cone even after erupting 48 times in the last 400 years. The last eruption from the date of this post was in December 2009.
